My life in a purse

I am one of those girls who carries a very large purse all the time.

Need a pen? I’ve got one. Need tissue, hand sanitizer… you name it, I probably have it in my purse. It works almost like a duffel bag, but of course a more stylish one. ;P

One of my guy friends always say that he can never find anything in it because it’s so big. That’s him. I know where everything is. Just look in the special compartments and pockets. I have no problem finding my keys and my phone – the two things I do not like to dig for

Another nice feature of having a large purse that I love is I can throw a pair of flats in my purse when I don’t feel like wearing my heels so I swap out my shoes with plenty of room to spare in my purse.

Your Money Week Spot

purse with money

Let’s face it, every day we want to buy something, but do we need it?

Identify how you spend your money and understand why it can be the first step to financial freedom.

Monday

Monday shoppers are looking for an instant shopping fix!

If you are a Monday shopper, allocate 20% of your weekly expenditure to spend on weekend so there is some left for the rest of week. Say goodbye to bread and water!

Tuesday and Wednesday

Mid week shoppers are more strategic.

Tuesday and Wednesday shoppers get the best deals possible and don’t overspend! Shop with an objective, make sure you get the best deal and make your purchase!

Thursday and Friday

Emotional spenders are found at the end of the week.

Thursday and Friday shoppers, the stress of homework and work take a toll on you! Don’t reward yourself by overspending! Release your stress by seeing your friends or catching a movie to avoid that impulse purchase!

Saturday and Sunday

Weekend shoppers shop for the social experience.

Saturday and Sunday shoppers will find themselves pressured to buy more. Work out exactly what you can afford; hide your credit cards, and do whatever possible to stop yourself from buying unnecessary items. Sometimes, you don’t need another pair of earrings to match your outfit.

What day are you? Let us know by leaving a comment below!

A Perfect Mess

makeup

Clean up your act starting with your make up bag!

If your mascara has been untouched since you wore your Halloween costume in 2008, its time to throw it overboard. Using spoiled product can cause ugly consequences.

Think breakouts, eye ans skin infections. Eww!

When it comes to getting pretty, its better to always take the high road. It’s beter to be safe than sorry!

LIPS

  1. Lip glosses applied should be replaced every 6 months as germs migrate easily into opened containers.
  2. Lip glosses with a wand last longer, up to a year

EYES

  1. Toss shadows every 6 months and mascara, every 3 months.

NAILS

  1. Throw our nail polish after 1 year. You don’t want to be applying streaky nails.

BRUSHES

  1. You’re not going to needing to throw this one out. Simply protect your investment by using a brush cleanser to wash them off every 2 weeks

FACE

  1. Replace your foundation after 1 year
  2. Loose or pressed powder after 2 years. Use a new sponge every 2 months to prevent skin irritation

Kaitlin & Summer on Feathers and Fascinators

Feathers

Everyone’s wearing feathers.

The most luxe way to get the look was with feathers. It’s no surprise then that the A-list are rocking plush and opulent plumes everywhere right now. From simple feathered headbands to full-on feathered dresses this is the stars’ party look of choice this year.

Feathered headbands are a nice addition to any outfit and they come in a wide variety of different styles and colors. From thick to thin, single colored or multi colored there is a feathered headband out there for everyone. Whether or not the whole head band is covered with feathers or only just a small part of it, it is a must have! This is one trend that’s set to stay.

Kaitlin & Summer: 15 Questions with Michael Kopplstätter of C.r.a.f.t

Craft

Today our interview is with Michael Kopplstätter, a designer from C.r.a.f.t., a hot label with attention from celebrities such as Nicole Richie and Louise Redknapp. Michael tells Kaitlin & Summer about his inspirations, denim disasters and what’s in the works for 2010. Plus, we have Autumn/Winter 2009 images from Craft’s lookbook! Enjoy!

1. Why do you think that after 200 years, jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?
For me, jeans are like music. There are certain vibes and you have to make another tune out of it. And with jeans, this works well to direct them in a new way, but still keeping them easy and wearable.

2. Last time I counted there were over 200 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?
Most denim brands, especially the USA brands, are still into this very casual attitude of jeans. Well i guess they think they do fashion, but they don’t, they do all these overdone things with labeling, stitching and treatment.

We have a much more European way to see the product. A bit rockin’, a bit sassy and edgy, a bit purist, the brand has led the way with clean European looking denim. C.r.a.f.t. has consistently kept their finger on the pulse and has become with it’s new rebellious attitude the denim label to fall in love…

3. Who do you imagine is a typical C.r.a.f.t. customer?
Rock chicks. With the right soul for rock you feel great in our denims. C.r.a.f.t offers a new perspective in for that corresponds with the truly uncompromising attitude of the women that wear it…the C.r.a.f.t fit does not make you look one size smaller (what a stupid argument of some labels)….the C.r.a.f.t woman already knows she looks beautiful, the fit helps her look fantastic.

4. Where do you get your inspiration from?
We find inspiration everywhere. But certainly in music, partying, on the street, on rock chicks, but also the nature, especially in the mountains.

5. Which style and wash of your jeans are flying out of the shops the quickest at the moment?
Our skinny biker jeans called “Hells Angel” rocks in all best stores around the world. The fit is so amazing cool and just right. Besides our basic skinny jean, “Nervous Breakdown” is still a best-seller as the fit is great. We are not so into washes, so dark blue is selling well, a nice basic vintage wash called “Next Morning” and black twills.

6. Are there any essential jeans that everyone should have in their wardrobe?
Our skinny jean “Nervous Breakdown” tight, stove pipe fit, low waist and tight hem in dark blue, black twill and in ash denim.

And a vintage mid-waist straight cut jean in a really natural vintage wash over the years, best in a Japanese selvage denim woven on old weaving machines with the shorter width of the fabric.

7. What are the first pair of jeans you remember?
“cantrememberafxxxingthing” – maybe thats why our jeans are called C.r.a.f.t.

8. What have been your favourite pair of jeans that you have owned and why?
Well, this was in the 80’s – the Levi’s 501. Just a legend at that time.

9. What have been your favourite pair of jeans that you have produced and why?
Our skinny jeans “Nervous Breakdown”, as we were the first ones who did the fit just perfect in skinny’s.

As a follower I like the biker “Hells Angel” a lot, the cut is a bit more extreme with just very fine and not overdone fashion ideas.

10. Which current celebs are currently rocking your jeans?
We are not so into the celeb thing. We like it if just really cool chicks are wearing our jeans, and this has nothing to do if you are a celeb or not. Cool women we like to see in our jeans are Daisy Lowe, and Kate Moss, etc.

11. Who is your current favourite denim icon (male or female). I am thinking the person who has the most denim style?
Kate Moss. She has just the right attitude for jeans.

12. Which person living or dead would you most like to see in a pair of your jeans?
Coco Chanel.

13. What is the worst denim crime?
To wear denim from head to toe.

14. Where can your Malaysian and Singaporean shoppers purchase C.r.a.f.t. jeans?
Tribeca, Baracuda, and Queen’s Couture.

15. And finally, do you have any predictions for denim trends in 2010?

Wear a pair of normal skinny jeans, but with extreme tight hem with hemzip and a black extreme shoulder-padded jacket.

Kaitlin & Summer: Make up Commandments

Cosmetics in a box

by Eunice Phang

1) Thou shall start with SKINCARE, because a beautiful makeup comes from healthy flawless skin (Else you’ll have loads to conceal, and need heavier foundation, which is not very cost effective looking at current economic situation *wink*).

2) Thou shall apply makeup base before foundation. This is to prevent clogged pores as well as letting the foundation ’sit’ better on your skin (especially for people with dry skin).

3) Thou shall always always remove your makeup entirely. Do not sleep in it else risk waking up with breakouts, let your skin breathe…

Makeup is a really fun thing to do, a therapeutic journey in beautifying a person. But above all, it is just the basic steps in caring for your skin before we start talking about colours, shades, texture and scents.

Kaitlin & Summer: Q&A Exclusive with Tony Hsieh of Zappos.com

1
August 13, 2009

Zappos-1

Today’s interview is with Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com. We are really excited to have caught up with him to speak about Zappos, his passion and what inspires him.

k&s: Tell us a little bit about your passion and what inspires you?

Over the past year, I’ve been really interested in learning more about the science of happiness. I’ve been reading a lot of books on the topic and thinking about how to apply the concepts from the science of happiness. I recently gave a talk at the SXSW Interactive conference that talks about customer service, company culture, and the science of happiness.

k&s: Did you have any prior experience in this industry before you started Zappos.com?

Prior to Zappos.com, I started a company called LinkExchange with a college roommate. We focused on Internet advertising.

k&s: How old were you when you first ventured into this industry? Did you receive any backlash due to your age then?

I got involved with the Internet industry when  I was 22. I think the Internet was so new at that point that almost everyone in the industry was young.

k&s: What are your current main challenges you face in this industry today?

I think the biggest challenge is that there are so many great ideas but not enough time or resources to do all of them. The hardest part about being an entrepreneur is figuring out what not to do.

k&s: What does an average day in your life entail? Is there such thing as work life balance for you?

There is no average day – every day is different. When you’re passionate about what you’re doing, there doesn’t need to be a clear separation between work and non-work. I think most people assume that work is something that has to be unenjoyable. Part of our goal at Zappos is for employees to look forward to coming into the office, and our company culture is a big reason why they do.

k&s: When things get tough, how do you go about it?

I think what really helps is just realizing that it’s all part of the process. There’s a great book called “The Dip” by Seth Godin that I would highly recommend everyone to read.

k&s: Lastly, any advice for fellow budding entrepreneurs like yourself?

I would say rather than focus on what will make you the most money or be best for your career, figure out what you would be passionate for 10 years and go pursue that. A lot of people work hard at building a career so that one day down the road they think it will bring them happiness. And most of the time, when they finally accomplish their goal, they realize that it doesn’t really end up bringing happiness or fulfillment for the long terms. One of the things that the research has shown is that people are very bad at predicting what will make them happy. If the ultimate goal is to achieve enduring happiness, it seems like it’s worth spending some time learning about the science of happiness so you don’t wind up in the same situation.
